Mullins joy as Quevega meets little resistance

Charles Byrnes' Cheltenham and Aintree hero was an 11/8 favourite to thwart Willie Mullins' brilliant mare's quest for a fourth successive triumph in the 105,400 Grade One. However, all the drama came beforehand, as Solwhit was withdrawn on veterinary advice after Davy Russell drew attention to blood on the horse's nose.

Subsequent investigations concluded that the source of the bleeding was superficial, b Fitflop Happy Gogh Clog Danmark ut that came after race goers were denied a mouthwatering heavyweight bout. Quevega took full advantage.

Having recorded her fifth Cheltenham Festival win in last gasp fashion, this was a far smoother rout in ground that had officially turned heavy after 10mm of overnight rain. She travelled like a dream to draw five lengths clear of Reve De Sivola, a horse that is no mug, but which finished around the same distance behind Solwhit at Cheltenham.

"She answered Ruby's every call today and did what she had to do," the champion trainer said afterwards.

"She worked brilliantly last Saturday and that was the first time that I thought I had her really race fit. It was unfortunate for Solwhit's connections, b 2013 Fitflop SUISEI NUDE ut I didn't wish he was there. As the old adage goes, keep yourself in the best of company and your horses in the worst!"

Quevega returned an SP of 6/4, but a Rule 4 deduction meant a loss of 40c in the Euro. Her 15th success was the highlight of a scintillating 624/1 five timer for Mullins, with Walsh, who drew a blank on the first two days, netting a 191/1 quartet.

He finished up five shy of Russell in the jockeys' table, setting up a potentially nail biting finale over the next two days. In the Ryanair Novice Chase, Cheltenham flop Arvika Ligeonniere bounced back to its best under the eight time champion.

The Rich Ricci owned 7/2 favourite is happiest going right handed in deep ground and drew readily clear of Oscars Well and Special Tiara. Mullins suggested he would try to find similar domestic targets over two miles for the eight year old next term.

Walsh's first win came on top weight Twinlight (8/1) in the handicap chase, after Russell denied him in the conditions hurdle with a smooth display from Colm Murphy's Rye Martini at 11/1.

JP McManus' Upsie (9/10 favourite) then out battled stable mate Twigline in the Orchid Mares' Hurdle t o complete his quartet under a heavy downpour, as Patrick Mullins wrapped up his father's quintet and a Gigginstown double on 9/4 favourite Turnandgo in the bumper.

Earlier, Big Shu held on bravely under Barry Cash in a gruelling edition of the Avon Ri La Touche Cup.

Peter Maher's 9/2 co favourite clambered over the last, but struggled across the line to follow up his Cheltenham heroics. Both Maher and Cash dedicated the victory to JT McNamara, the five time winner of this who was left paralysed from the neck down after a fall in the race beforehand at Cheltenham.

movie review

French film director Thomas Balmes and his producer Alain Chabat who is credited with the film's "original idea" began by scouring the globe for people who were genuinely happy to be having a child. (How did they determine this?) The goal was to make "a wildlife film on human babies," and they finally found their f Fitflop Walkstar Danmark amilies, or more precisely, their pregnant mothers, in 2006. Filming for the next two years, Balmes shuttled across the continents.

The lead players are anything but camera shy, although Balmes is careful not to show us shots of babies peering into the lens. There's big eyed Ponijao, who lives in Namibia with her extended family in the Himba tribe. Bayar, from Mongolia, is tormented by his older brother and likes cows. Mari, who throws one of the great tantrums in movies when she can't figure out a puzzle, lives with her family in Tokyo; Hattie is with her parents in San Francisco. The predominately female roster is pure coincidence Balmes chose the mothers before they gave birth.

Despite m Fitflop Freeway Danmark y best intentions, I found myself playing the Who's Cutest game. Not fair, but unavoidable. To this Westerner's eyes, the more "exotic" babies were the most fascinating. But what are we learning here really? To anyone who has raised a child, or been around one for very long, there's nothing in this movie that smacks of revelation. It's not like you sit back and go, "Hey! Babies like to hit things?!" Balmes has taken a resolutely middlebrow approach to babydom, and I often wished he had a bit more Jean Piaget and lot less Disney in his soul.

He's so carried away by the film's high concept that he doesn't allow his camera to linger very long on any one baby. He scurries back and forth, tying the footage together with rudimentary matchups baby plays with toys, baby cries, baby stands up. Especially in the Namibian and Mongolian scenes, I longed for him to just hold the setting for a while and allow us to sink into the differentness of it all. Because, of course, the more "exotic" these situations seem at first, the more familiar they become. Children, basically, are children. It's not much of a message but neither is it false to experience.

What does appear somewhat false is the glibness of the enterprise. We rarely see anything harrowing, we don't see sickness, and fathers are almost entirely left out of the picture. I realize that Balmes is merely recording what was in front of him, but I find it difficult to believe t hat all four babies, or their parents, lived such comparatively halcyon lives. Balmes is pushing a beatific vision of childhood that is deeply enjoyable and also deeply suspect. Imagine if, say, Michael Apted of the "28 UP" series had gotten ahold of these children and these families. Balmes has made, as he intended, a wildlife documentary about human babies, except there isn't much wildlife on view. "Babies" is a celebration of the gloriously mundane. Like I said, Awwww. Grade: B+ (Rated PG for cultural and maternal nudity throughout.)

New York Magazine Is Really Trying to Make Socks With Sandals Happen

via New York MagazineIs this a trick? The generally fashionable New York magazine is attempting to promote something that we cannot a facebook bide: "Eight Killer Sock and Sandal Combos." And calling it a trendlet, for the love of God. Don't believe it. This is what happened with rompers, ladies! And coral lipstick! And . shoulder pads!

It just takes one media outlet to jump on the bandwagon, and sooner or later, we're all confused and befuddled and brain washed enough to think, Hey, maybe that looks kinda good. And then we go out wearing it, and some other poor impressionable fashion victim sees us, and so on. It's a slippery slope.

A few ground rules: If you look like a child, a tourist, or a spinster aunt, you do not look good (unless you are any of those things, in which case, sorry, you're workin' i fitflop t!). Also, just because Zooey Deschanel wears something . or Chloe Sevigny . well, you get the point. If you don't, yet, this should help.

My Unlikely Journey to Ultramarathon Greatness

The main characters of "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougal have found various ways to capitalize on the book's success. Barefoot Ted created the Luna Sandal company that sells my favorite running footwear. McDougal himself does various speaking engagements and is working on a film version of BTR. Scott Jurek has recently come out with a book of his own called "Eat Run". Scott is featured in BTR as one of the runners in the Copper Canyon Ultra Marathon. He was also recently named one of the top 100 fittest men in the world.

Jurek's book is autobiographical and covers Scott's life from early childhood into his adult life where he has become a truly amazing ultra distance runner. Since one of Scott's stated reasons for his success is his vegan diet and solid training program, he ends each chapter with a vegan recipe and a training tip. I have tried several of the recipes and have found some pretty good eats. His mushroom l facebook entil buggers are excellent. I also used his Japanese rice balls or Onigiri recipe for some real food during the ADK Ragnar race to offset the middle school cafeteria spaghetti.

The book opens with a disclaimer that he is not a doctor and should you follow in his footsteps you might be seriously harmed or even killed. He sums it up perfectly with:

If you decide to run 135 miles in Death Valley, no matter what advice of mine you do or do not follow, you do so at your own risk. But I'll be with you in spirit, every kickass step.

His life starts off as the stereo typical underdog, the kid called "Pee Wee", and he ends up being an ultra running super star. He tells stories of perseverance against what seem like impossible odds. The book begins with him puking his guts out like a frat pledge on a Sunday morning. Except instead of drinking too much beer from a funnel the night before, Scott is vomiting because he is in Death Valley in the middle of the night where it is 105 degrees Fahrenheit and he has just run 70 miles with 65 to go. He is feeling very bad, and is contemplating dropping out of the 2005 Badwater Ultramarathon.

He goes on to describe his childhood when his mother contracts multiple sclerosis, and it really changes his life. He learns at an early age "Sometimes you just do things". This becomes sort of a racing mantra for Scott. When he is down and out and ready to quit, he somehow just does it.

There are many impressive races described in the book. I have two favorites. The first one is when Scott sprains his ankle just prior to running the Hardrock 100 at a children's soccer game. Instead of taking vitamin I (ibuprofen) , he uses RICE (rest, ice, compression and elevation) and an anti inflammatory diet. He not only finishes the race, but wins with a course record of 26 hours and 8 minutes.

The next race that really made an impression on me was one of the three times he wins the Spartathlon, a 153 mile race between Athens and Sparta in Greece. During the race after 130 miles, when he is in the lead, he sees a headlamp approaching. He proceeds to run 15k at a 7 minute pace only to find out it was a "bandit" runner that joined the race at 120 miles. He still has 22 to go, and has now needlessly expended lots of extra energy. The fact that he is able to dig that deep after so many miles really shows the power of the mind to be able to overcome anything and push on.

I enjoyed the book, and would recommend it for any runner. I like Scott's philosophy of g fitflop ood diet and a science based training plan. The race stories are epic adventures. The recipes and training tips are very useful. I love the chili recipe which even fooled Max into thinking it contained meat.

Although Jurek is not a "barefoot" runner, he does recommend at least some training be done barefoot. I would say that my own BTR inspired running is actually a mix of Barefoot Ted and Scott Jurek. I am now mostly vegetarian (although I still eat fish), and I run and walk either barefoot or in minimalist shoes of one kind or another.

say goodbye to lumpy legs

Getting active is vital. But part of the problem with trying to disperse a toughened up layer of cellular debris on your thighs and backside is that there's not much blood circulation through it.

If you exercise, you won't target t fitflops udsalg he right bits unless, claim the people behind Hypoxi, you cycle in their vacuum pod which draws blood up to the surface, to get at that resistant layer.

Sounds weird, feels weird, but I did a whole course and lost proportionately more centimetres from the thighs and backside than my upper body. Result.

Alternatively, exercise wearing MBT trainers or, cheaper, FitFlops, or you could try Powerplate vibration training, all of which claim cellulite busting, bottom firming benefits.

Do they w fitflop ork? I'm not convinced that any of them "break down stubborn fat cells" but if they encourage you to watch what you eat, exercise a bit more, drink loads of water and massage your legs firmly, daily, they can certainly improve the look of the skin's surface.

By giving your thighs a continuous micromassage (you need to wear them for at least four hours a day, for eight weeks, and they're jolly hot), they enhance circulation and improve the look of dimply bits.

I wore them diligently, encouraged when they dispersed a whopping bruise on my thigh within three days.

And? There was some i Fitflop Electra Danmark mprovement, though not in long established dimples at the top of my thighs.

Then Scala pants were launched (25 at John Lewis), made from yarn full of anti cellulite crystals.

Eek, had I spent months wearing the wrong cellulite pants? They're not so tight but they're much easier to wear. And as effective? I can't yet say.

I picked up a pair for $25 at an REI garage sale back in the day. They've stopped doing the epic ones here at the Seattle flagship store (instead having a full time sale in the basement) but I believe they still do them at the smaller stores nationwide. Of course you've got to get lucky to get exactly the ones you want, but it's worth checking out if there is one coming up near you.
